Lend-A-Prop

Your Prop… in Our Film

We need napkin rings shaped like ballerinas...

“That’s my prop!”

The screenplay calls for “a garish set of ballerina-shaped napkin rings, with the dancers posed in complex positions to allow napkin insertion.”

It’s a “special” birthday gift for the character, Baba, who used to be a Ballet teacher.

Are you a Sculptor?  Garage Sale Guru?

Send us a photograph of a ballerina napkin ring made or found by you.  Your set of rings could make it into the film!

If we choose your submission, you will be listed as a Prop Sponsor with a link (if you like) on our website.  Just like the Amazing Greg Aanes Furniture.

We Have The Chair!

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Wow.

"Baba's Chair" (the Brendan Rocker, by Greg Aanes) -the most important prop in Connected

I just got off the phone with the wonderful Greg Aanes of Greg Aanes Furniture, in Washington.  (Like him on Facebook here)

He’s the designer and craftsman who created the incredible rocking chair I’ve been raving about, which I’d always envisioned as the central prop in the film -Grandma Baba’s Rocking Chair.

Last month, you voted to choose one made of Walnut, and today, Greg has graciously offered to make a chair especially for the film, and lend it to us for our production, as a sponsorship.

HOORAY!!

We’ll either return it in excellent condition post-production, or a lucky person might decide to Buy it when we’re done.

VERY CONNECTED.

This is how we’d envisioned gathering props for this film -by offering artists a unique opportunity to have their work featured in a beautiful movie, in addition to being listed and linked on our website and in the credits of Connected.

Greg’s rocker was the first. I’ve got many artists in mind for other props in the film.  And maybe YOU are one of them?!

Stay tuned for more on how Your Art might be featured in Connected…

Many thanks to all of you who donated toward the prop this month.  Your gracious gifts will be fully utilized for the film, and you can take special pride in knowing that your support helped Greg know how much we love his work.

We Are Connected,

Amy

In a Nutshell

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011
Hello, Fellow Producers,

Baba's Chair in black walnut -the wood chosen by producers like You!

Abundant Thanks to all of you who shared your thoughts and voted on our most important prop, Grandma Baba’s rocking chair.

When I re-read the description of the wood that received the most votes, I was moved to tears.  Parts of it could have been written about Baba herself:

“…This regal wood is known for its deep color and figure. Walnut’s presence is ageless.  Its color will mellow to a reddish brown and the figure will retain its beauty.”

Even without having read the script, you knew that this was the right wood for her, and I agree whole-heartedly.

As to Stewart’s question about the set, here’s a snapshot of the room (below) where the chair will prominently abide.  It’ll have different furnishings and no rug, but the piano will remain.

The Music Room where the chair will be. Furnishings will change, and once it's lit, the walnut will be a perfect fit

This is my favorite chair on the planet, and it’s going to be Perfect for Baba.

Many thanks and Vibes to you!

~Amy

Wood You Choose…

Friday, June 10th, 2011

Hello, Producers!

"The Brendan Rocker", by Greg Aanes

It’s time to make an executive decision.
For most of the props and set dressing for the film, we plan to utilize the abundance of local art.
The most important prop in the film is Baba’s rocking chair, and I’m inviting you to help pick the wood it will be made in.

As the film opens:
Grandmother Baba is sitting in her rocking chair, “the chair her husband made”.  She’s back-lit, with the window behind her, as the music gently falls into the moment.  Even though her husband is dead, his legacy remains in his beautifully crafted furniture.
When I wrote the first scene, I knew that chair.
I’d sat in one years ago, at a shop in LaConner, WA, called The Wood Merchant.  The moment you sit down, your whole body relaxes.  It’s some kind of magical design that fits every body “just right” -like Goldilocks.
Greg makes them in 6 different Gorgeous woods.  You really have to look at them closely to see the incredible nuance of each.

Go “Shopping”

Click on the photo to the right -read about the kinds of wood, look at the photos, as if it was You producing this film and choosing the chair.  Because it is!

The Spring Connect-Up

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Saturday (May 28) marked our second World-Wide Connect-Up for The ConnectedFilm Project!  With a bunch of new faces and a sprinkling of returning friends, we had over 200 people attending and 40 actively participating. There were great conversations both in the chat room and through text questions to Amy.  We even had one producer from Helsinki!

Both the winter and spring rallies were a great way for the Core Team to connect with you - our friends, our supporters, our producers – on a more personal level.  The rally was LIVE on Vokle, an awesome website that allows Amy lead the discussion but invited guest participation by video, text, and chat! Super cool.

Live Sing-a-Long

We are Connected!

Here’s what happened…

  • We introduced the Core Members and invited your help… there are so many ways to get involved.
  • We shared some Exciting News!
  • Amy has been invited to do a TED Talk in Phoenixville (more on that soon)!
  • We took questions and suggestions from the audience, which gave us great ideas for the future of The Project…
  • We even had a world-wide sing-a-long (possibly the coolest sing-a-long ever)!

We are Connected!

Because we love seeing your bright smiling faces, we’ve decided to hold a rally once a season.

The next rally will be in September… but here’s some amazing news… [[drumroll]] we’re doing that one IN-PERSON in Philadelphia! Amy will be traveling from the West Coast to meet up with Philadelphia-based Core Member Kara (that’s me!) and Boston-based Core Member Lisa (not me, but she’s super cool too!).  We’ll keep you posted as plans progress.

Vibes for Japan

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

We Are Connected to our Friends in Japan.

Dear Connected Community,

If you are aware of the situation in Japan, particularly the nuclear element, I invite you to join me in sending Positive Vibes for a swift and complete solution.

Take just 1 minute, right now. Even 1 will help.

If you have your own method, go for it, otherwise, here’s an option:

* Close your eyes and let go of your breathing.  Just let it come.

* Notice your thoughts as they focus on Japan.  If there is fear there for you, recognize it.

* Imagine taking that energy and turning it into cool, blue, focused trust that a swift, safe, clean solution is manifesting right now

* Watch your positive energy swirl around the nuclear reactors and the destruction in Japan, soothing and healing the situation.  Imagine that the people can feel your support -because it’s real.

* Let yourself fill up with Gratitude that the situation is made safe and secure.  That the people and animals and infrastructure of Japan are healing -with Your Help!

With globalization, there is a lot of communication right now based on fear.  It’s strong and real.  But we have this opportunity to join with others who are creating a positive force in the world. The ConnectedFilm Project is about the power we have when we focus on something positive together.

Vibes to you.  Thank you for your support.

We ARE Connected!

Amy
