Connecting in Chicago

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Hello Wonderful Beings! ~

At times, we have the tendency to get caught up in our daily schedules and forget about certain significant factors of life – like having “personal” time, or creating new memories with family and friends. So, what do we do when we fail to stay in contact with the people we care for the most? Why is it important to stay connected?

I recently went to the lovely city of Chicago for a theatre show production. During my visit, I had the amazing opportunity to introduce some inspiring Chicago natives to the ConnectedFilm community and ask them what it means to be connected.

Check out the video as I connect you to Chicago, and ask yourself…How do I stay Connected?

Introducing the ConnectedFilm Core Team!

Friday, June 11th, 2010

a letter from Co-Founder Amy Walker

What do we do
when dark goo oozes from our subterranean cracks?  Ignore it?  Examine it?  Utilize it?  Try to stop it, plug it up, make it go away..?

When we face challenges that don’t have a ready solution, it’s easy to divide into little globules and float around looking for someone else to own up and take responsibility.

We tried that with Connected. Searched far and wide for someone wonderful to make our film the way we envisioned it.  Step by step, we’ve realized, as President Obama says, that “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”

When the SoulFire Project is created with proceeds from the film, someone with an idea and a plan could make a page for, say, cleaning up the Gulf of Mexico, and this new mode of Micro-Giving could help make it happen.  Mobilize volunteers, raise funds.

If I can only give $10, but I tell 10 people and they give $10, that’s $100.  And if those people tell 10 more people…

We’re like a mighty ant hill that’s just beginning to realize we’ve been working together all along, building our world.  All it takes is a little coordination and our numbers can achieve ANYTHING.

That’s why we’re utilizing the passions and expertise of our Core Team members to help create and coordinate the ConnectedFilm project.  Each one of them brings incredible insight and inspiring gifts to the project in a way that fuels their soulfire.

They’re already working with many of you, and we welcome everyone with a desire to help the project in a way that aligns with your soulfire to contact us.

My Inspiration, My Soulfire

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

One of the most exciting parts of being a Liaison for the ConnectedFilm Project is figuring out new ways to get people involved with the project.  Indeed, although it may be challenging at times, it is certainly one of the most enjoyable, and perhaps rewarding, parts of the entire process.  From start to finish, it takes roughly one week to come up with a new idea and finalize its production.

Take for example the latest video blog I created, “Connecting Through Art“.  The inspiration for this video came to me while I was walking through my high school’s art department.  Upon observing the multitude of astract paintings, self portraits, clay sculptures, and graphic designs, I knew that I had to highlight these pieces of artwork in some way.  I went to the drawing board.

“Perhaps I could make a montage of various students and their artwork.”

“No, no, no.  What if I made a video of students creating their artwork.”

“Wait, I’ve got it!  What if I asked people how they connect through their artwork!”

After a brief brainstorming session, it was finalized: I would ask students how they were able to connect to other people trhough their art (be it paintings, sculptures, or graphic designs).  I am inspired by everything and everyone around me.  Perhaps that is what truly fuels my soulfire.

We Are Connected – in every language

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Some people may think that different languages are an obstacle for a piece of work to reach everyone. They might be right, I mean, take poetry for example.

A poem is not only an ensemble of verses that display wonderful meanings and portray beautiful images, a poem is also the ability of the poet to use simple words in a very artistic way to give “birth” to harmonic rhymes.

That’s why a poem if translated loses this harmony, and sometimes loses a little part of its meanings.Thank God, not everything needs translation. Painting, Sculpture, Dance, Music, so many of the arts.

When I saw the Music Video of the ConnectedFilm song I told my self that I need to translate the lyrics because the song carries very deep meanings. Imagine such a wonderful song translated to many languages. I translated it to Italian and French,

and Philip, our Liaison in Germany, translated it to German.

We invite wonderful connected people like you to translate it to more and more languages to let more and more people enjoy it and feel the deeper meaning of it for themselves.

Thank you

“We’re All in the Boat”

Friday, March 5th, 2010

a letter from Co-Founder Amy Walker:

We’re all in the boat
Drifting on the sea
Trying to stay afloat
water as far as the eye can see

So reach into your heart
find a hopeful word
find a healing gesture
and send it off like a bird

Then keep your eyes on the horizon
One day she’ll return
To lead this fragile vessel
safely home

~Chorus from “We’re All in the Boat”, by Tom Walker

It thrills my aching heart to see how the world is uniting to bring aid to Haiti and  Chile.  But aside from money, how can I, one person, help a country far away? and warring peoples and homeless neighbors in what can feel like a big black hole of need?

Well, I am an artist.  I might not be the best politician, or a builder of new houses, but inspiration pours through me to manifest art and the unique life I create.  It manifests in the loving way I behold a stranger; in the family-oriented film we’re creating together; and most of all, in the ways I nourish my own spirit, that I may have the abundance to overflow upon our beautiful world.

I believe that the most effective way for each of us to aid our planet and its people is found in the secret whisperings of our hearts.  That, even when there does not appear to be a direct connection from one to the other, everything we do to bring love into the world Does somehow uplift our global community.

How does your soulfire burn?
That’s what ConnectedFilm is about, and YOU are an essential part of it.  When the film is completed with your help, we’ll be making a web platform for you to share your SoulFire projects with the world.

The Evolution of Connection

Friday, February 26th, 2010

a letter from Co-Founder Amy Walker:

The Evolution of Connection, my friends! You are the first to hear about my latest incarnation of connecting to the world through live art and interaction.

Last January, hundreds of people all over the world tuned in to my live variety show.  I loved chatting with you during the Q&A, but I wanted a way to interact with you In-Depth, and Vokle provided the next step.

I’m calling it a Live Interactive Vlog Experience -Amy Walker “LIVE”. Each week, I will release an exclusive video from my recent show, which you can download.

On Saturdays in March, I will open up my heart and home for those who are interested in discussing the video and my work in-depth.  You can simply watch the video feed, or register for a free account with Vokle to submit your questions during the Q&Amy.

For the full interactive experience, you can even set up your webcam and mic through Vokle and submit Video questions.  If your question is chosen, you will appear live on video feed with me so we can be even more Connected!

Also each week, I will share a new piece for you, like a Vlog.  It may be a song, monologue, character writing, something from my own journal…  Whatever I’m inspired to share.

I actually had a dream last summer that we were doing live vlogs over the net for ConnectedFilm.  We had a 3-camera set up, complete with a live audience and a crew that fed us questions people sent in -all housed in a school gym!

It may have been my subconscious at work, but who knows where this new technology will take us!

“We Are More”

Friday, February 19th, 2010

a letter from Co-Founder Amy Walker:

What a JOY to see so many of the world’s nations
gathering together to celebrate the evolution of athletic achievement.  The rivers of color-drenched flags and shimmering faces at the Opening Ceremonies represented, to me,
the strength of our differences.

And although I Thrilled at the spectacular effects of gigantic glittering star constellations, areal ski-acrobatics and spark-shooting tap dancers, it was the echoing, tap-rooted, star-shaking power of one man’s voice that had me sobbing in streams of un-hyperbolized awe.

“We are an experiment going right, for a change,” he said.
“We are an idea in the process of being realized
We are young, we are cultures strung together then woven into a tapestry
And the design is what makes us more than the sum totals of our history…

We dream so big that there are those
Who would call our ambition an industry…

We are the abandoned hesitation of all those who can’t wait…

Because we are choices
We are millions upon millions of voices
Shouting, “Keep exploring!”…

Each life unravels differently
And experiences are what make up
The colours of our tapestry

We are the true North
Strong and free
And what’s more
Is that we didn’t just say it
We made it be”

~excerpts from Canadian Shane Koyczan’s poem, “We Are More,”
as delivered at the 2010 Olympic Games.

“We are more” because We Are Connected.
