Frequently Asked Questions

1) Where does the money go?

All of the donations will be used to cover costs associated with producing the film Connected, including development, pre-production, production (filming), post-production. Our team is working pro bono, until we meet our production budget.

2) What is Connected about?

For a full synopsis, please visit our page: The Film.

3) What does “soulfire” mean?

Soulfire is that immutable fountain of inspiration that fills your entire body and being when you know you Must. “I Must marry this person!” “I Must study paleontology!” “I Must produce a film called Connected, even if I don’t know how yet!”.

4) What is a Green-Light study?

A Green-Light study aims to estimate a film’s public reception and economic viability. The study compares the new film to several past films, which are similar in genre and budget, analyzing the script and budget to estimate its public reception. Connected was “Green-Lit”, meaning it was pronounced economically viable and likely to be well-received by cross-demographics, due to its universal family themes and comedic and dramatic elements.

5) Who will be in Connected?

For several of the lead roles, SoulFire Films has a shortlist of professional SAG actors who will be contacted first by our casting director, once funding is secured. Other roles will be cast through our casting director. This is a union production.

6) When will filming start?

Projected for Spring/Summer 2011.

7) What will happen to the film’s revenue, once Connected is distributed?

In the normal “studio model”, funding is raised by investors -whether they’re studios, corporations, or independent financiers. Since most of our funding is from donations rather than investments, the 50% that would normally go back to the investors will be instead used to fund the SoulFire Project (see below).
The remaining 50% will be divided as per the standard filmmaking model: 25% split among affiliated production companies; 25% split among talent, producer, director, etc. In that way, we can pay people who will be working for union scale wages, due to the small budget.

8) What is the SoulFire Project?

The SoulFire Project will aim to empower people around the world to manifest the projects of their heart and soulfire. After Connected is distributed, we will create a supportive web community, called SoulFireProject.com, where anyone will be able to make a web page about their own SF project.
The pages will help people gather support and funding, spread awareness about their project, and unite people with common goals. The projects will be anything that fuels your soulfire -in art, science, humanitarian works, and beyond! The SoulFire Project may eventually expand beyond the SFP website to include projects such as school programs and incentives, senior citizen programs to help people realize their long-held dreams, and more!

9) What is the projected budget for Connected?

Our initial breakdown details a small budget of $1.2 million.

10) How will you fit 1 million names in the credits of the film?

Since most people actually give more than $1 there will be far less than 1 million names. The full credits will run at the end of the film, over a fun featurette about the making of Connected. The DVD also will have a special search feature so you can find the names of all of your family and friends. That way when you host screening parties, everyone can jump up and down screaming, “Look, I’m a film Producer! It never gets old! I’m a film Producer!”
